I love a good cleaning hack, and I especially love ideas that save me time and money! I’m sharing a tip in this post that I stumbled on out of sheer necessity . . . because little babies are poop machines!
We’ve made it a goal to spend as little as possible on clothing, and I proudly admit that most of our children’s clothes were gifted, handed down or bought for cheap. Thankfully, we have friends and family with great taste! The last thing I want to do is let a little poop ruin a perfectly good item of clothing.
That said, my newest little one has a habit of pooping up his back. Every mother knows the horror of back poop! It’s the most tricky and annoying mess to clean.
This tried and true cleaning hack will rescue all your poopy onesies. My husband can attest to the number of times I’ve had to do this . . . it’s high! This cleaning hack works for darks, lights and even whites.
Here’s the step by step process.
Super Easy Poopy Cleaning Hack, Step #1
You need really, really hot water! Hot enough that the onesie is a little hard to handle and a very “sharp” stream of water. (Luckily, I didn’t have very many dirty dishes at the time). I always thought that you should only use cold water on colors, but hot seems to work much better for poop removal, especially with whites.
Super Easy Poopy Cleaning Hack, Step #2
Once you have the water super, piping hot, rinse all the problem areas really well. This step actually does most of the work.
Super Easy Poopy Cleaning Hack, Step #3
Once you’ve rinsed your onesie really well, you’ll need some detergent. I always use a detergent that has Oxiclean. They have a lot of other products that clean really well, too. Not an ad, just sayin’.
Pour a little detergent from the cup anywhere that you can still see stain and rub vigorously between your hands.

Finally, rinse again and squeeze out as much water as you can. Let it air dray a little before putting it in with your other dirty clothes (if you want). Relish the fact that you rescued another onesie and saved your bank account!
