I’m sharing my 10 best easy weight loss tips that helped me be successful (up until getting pregnant again)! I went from 165 to 120 in about 4 months before baby number 2. These simple habits will help you lose weight or maintain weight loss so you don’t have to go back and forth into super diet mode again and again.

Keep Healthy Snacks on Hand
This is probably the most helpful tip for me, personally. I like to snack, so if there aren’t healthy options around, I will undoubtedly make bad choices. Fortunately, I really like fruits and vegetables, so those are always easy options to have on hand. Roasting vegetables really brings out their flavor and make for a satisfying healthy snack.
For more healthy snack ideas, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite 25+ healthy snacks for tired and busy moms (or anyone who’s busy like a mother). These are super quick snacks to have on hand, even on your most hectic days. You can also eat many of these on the go. They are truly a life saver!
Meal prep goes right along with keeping healthy snacks on hand. If you have healthy meals already laid out for the week or the day, you will be less tempted to go for something high in calories or something that is simply unhealthy. Meal prep is also especially important for those who are making different eating choices than those in their household.
My husband comes home from work to eat lunch each day, so I like to make a hot meal for him that he’ll really enjoy. He works long hours and NEEDS that pick-me-up. Lunch meal prep is really important for me because we’re not always eating the same way.
For dinner, we’ll usually eat the same thing, but I really pay attention to portion and sometimes make substitutions. I’ll touch on that more below.

Don’t Eat Empty Calories
When you’re making food choices, always think about how far your choice will take you. You want to focus on foods that will keep you fuller longer. Do you want to eat a cookie that’s 100 calories that will not keep you full? Or, do you want to eat a 100 calorie banana that will last much longer and is way more healthy?
Pay close attention to Portion
Learning portion control after my first pregnancy was a huge eye opener for me. I had never really paid attention to the portions on food items and realized I had been going way overboard with foods like pasta, rice and dressings.
When I cut down to the suggested portion sizes, I realized that I could still get fully satisfied and enjoy many of my favorite meals in a more healthy way.
Use Cooking Spray vs Oil
I love this trick! Instead of using cooking oil to make eggs and other pan fried or sauteed dishes, just use 0 calorie cooking spray. My scrambled eggs come out just the same, whether using oil or spray. But, by using the spray, I save at least 100 calories.
I’ve even used this trick for my baked “fried” chicken recipe from my super cheap meals post.
Look for ways to reduce carb intake. Instead of regular rice, use cauliflower rice. Sub out pasta and try spiraled veggies or spaghetti squash. Instead of bread, try a lettuce wrap or wheat tortilla.
These substitutions can help you feel that same satisfaction as eating carbs without all those calories. For me, I always feel like my meal isn’t complete if I just have a protein and veggies. Options like cauliflower rice or spaghetti squash fill that void, but I’m still just eating veggies and protein. Super genius trick of the mind!
Also, look for leaner meat options like turkey bacon and sausage, ham and pork and white meat chicken vs dark.
Easy Weight Loss Tips: Beverage Choices
Don’t Drink Juice or Soda
Juice and soda are just empty calories. It’s so hard to try to maintain a healthy weight when you consume these regularly. If you really like the taste of juice and can’t go without it, try filling your glass with water, and just adding a tiny bit of juice for flavor. Go with diet soda if you must have it, but it’s so much healthier just to go without.
Drink More Water
If you’re used to drinking lots of juice and soda, switching to water is a great start for weight conscientiousness. However, most people still don’t get enough water in their daily diet, regardless.
You should take in about 8, 8 oz glasses of water a day. Or, try filling a jug to the correct total amount of water you need daily, and pour from it until it’s empty each day. This is an easy way to ensure proper water intake.
Drink a glass of water before each meal to help you eat less. And, drink a glass of water each time you have a hankering for a snack. If you still feel like you need a snack after drinking your glass of water, go for it, as long as it’s a smart choice.
Easy Weight Loss Tips: General Habits
Don’t Eat After Dinner
Once dinner is done, so are you for the day! This will help you digest better while you sleep and will keep you from turning to extra snacking. It’s good to go to sleep a little bit hungry, so your body goes to fat stores to burn energy rather than a fresh supply of calories as your body goes through recovery mode.
Plan a Cheat Day (80/20)
It’s no fun to be super strict with your food choices 100 percent of the time. Go with the 80/20 rule. This rule encourages healthy choices 80% of the time and allows you to indulge the other 20%.
If you know a holiday is approaching, make sure you are really vigilant up to and right after. Same goes for parties and celebrations.
Make your weekend a time to have a few more calories if you like to eat out or want to dive into some ice cream or need to shovel down some popcorn at the movies.
Easy Weight Loss Tips: Lazy Exercise
I don’t always have time (or want) to exercise, so I’ve found some simple habits that can replace a regular exercise routine.
- If you’re going up or down the stairs in your home, double up. Go up, then down, then up again to do whatever it is you needed to do on the next level.
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Park further away.
- If your kids are playing at the park, instead of just chilling on the bench, circle the jungle gym at a low or moderate pace while they play.
- If you’re sitting, watching tv, bounce your legs on the balls of your feet or do very light body weight exercises just during the commercials.
These simple habits will get you more active without you even feeling like it. You’ll lazily burn calories and keep moving until you’re ready to devote more time and energy to a more rigorous exercise regimen.

Women go through so much change with our bodies that is easy to go nuts over our weight. Just, do the best you can and love yourself through every stage. If you establish good habits, you will feel better and have more energy to set yourself up for the most success in maintaining a healthy, happy weight.
